Meditation is the tool used in Buddhism to generate awareness, insight, compassion, balance and inner peace. It is sometimes described as a “mental training resulting in a calm and luminous mind.” Tibetan Buddhist monk Sonam Rinchen explains: “Meditation is intended to help us gain control of the mind, to free it from being dominated by disturbing emotions and to increase its familiarity with positive feelings like love and compassion. Since no one meditation style could appeal to all persons, Buddhism offers a wide range of meditation techniques including: chanting, mantra, visualization, recitation, silence, vipasanna, zen, metta, inquiry and more. - VMP
