This intention to dedicate our training to others is a powerful way to open our closed, restricted hearts. It produces a strong spiritual energy —a blessing— and sows in us the seed of enlightenment. Spiritual practice is perfected through compassion. We should develop the attitude: “I am doing this spiritual training for the service, happiness, benefit, and enlightenment of all beings; I am training in order to make myself a proper tool to serve and fulfill the needs of all beings.” In the sutras, this is called bodhicitta, the enlightened attitude.
