Scientists have said that the Earth has always had enough resources and will continue to have enough resources to meet the true needs of mankind the need, not the greed. The real needs of society are not really that great just some food and some respectable clothing. These needs should be easily satisfied. The problem comes when we succumb to greed. If we practice meditation, the restraint of greed is not so difficult. - Shivarudra Balayogi
A multimillion-dollar complex for Buddhist events was opened to the public in northern Vietnam last week in, in celebration of the 701st death anniversary of Tran Nhan Tong who ruled Vietnam from 1278 to 1293 – an epoch of peace and prosperity for the country. He retired at the age of 50 in order to become an ordained Buddhist monk and spent the remainder of his life teaching.
The complex is the size of a football field and is made of concrete that simulates wood texture, with the design inspired by the architecture of nearby old-time structures. It will be used to honor the Emperor and as a center for meditation, teaching and retreat. Thing are not meant to be loved but to b used wisely. People are to be loved, but there, too, we must be careful not to come to see people as possessions. - Eknath Easwaran
Among Japanese Buddhists, when you ask someone 'how are you doing?' they will respond: Because of the efforts of others, I am doing well."
This is a great lesson in gratitude and about the inter-connectedness of life. Motivation is overrated. While it’s nice to be motivated, the people who really manage to get things done are those who find a way to work at whatever it is they’re interested in even when they don’t really feel like doing it. This goes for musicians, athletes, world-class chefs and all the rest. Discipline is being able to do things when you don’t want to do them. - Brad Warner
