The purpose of Buddhist practice is to establish an eternally indestructible state of happiness, not a fleeting happiness that perishes like a flower, but an internal palace of happiness that will last throughout all time. - Daisaku Ikeda
“Choose to be optimistic, it feels better,” is the straightforward but profound advice from the Dalai Lama. Much of the suffering we experience is the result of our own negative thinking. The fact is that maintaining a positive frame of mind reduces anxiety and suffering while raising happiness and joy.
And, it’s surprisingly easy to retrain a mind which is habitually negative. The ancient yogic sage, Patanjali, makes this suggestion: “When presented with negative, disquieting thoughts or feelings, cultivate an opposite, elevated attitude.” An almost identical approach is offered by 20th century writer, Norman Vincent Peale, author of The Power Of Positive Thinking who advised: “Whenever a negative thought . . . comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out.” It is not possible to control all external events. But if I simply control my mind, what need is there to control other things. - Shantideva
The way you treat yourself is one of the few things you control in life. There’s no reason to be anything but kind to yourself, in both your speech and your actions.
- Toni Bernhard Due to humanity’s greed and negligence of environmental preservation, the law of nature has been violated, causing the earth to be covered with serious wounds and damages. - Hsing Yun
If you can really understand the nature of life, then you realize it is not possible to form any conclusion about how life should be. In the Dharma there is something very deep, which is to be open to the uncertainty of life. But we hold onto this idea of certainty because we assume things can be controlled. But when we think deeply we realize we have no control. - Godwin Samararatne
Anguish is everywhere. Release from anguish comes with
the personal acknowledgment and resolve: we are here together very briefly, so let us accept reality fully and take care of one another while we can. - Robert Aitken The Buddhist path is not difficult. It is a path of removing obstructions. It is not that we need to develop perfection; perfection is already there. - Tashi Nyima
Western countries are never satisfied. They have everything, and they still want more. - Dalai Lama 14th
