“But I haven’t just been lucky. I’ve been unlucky plenty of times too. And I’ve never rested on my laurels. I’ve worked hard, learned my craft, grabbed my opportunities and just kept on bloody going when others gave up.”
Actor Michael Caine rightly notes that “no one can succeed in the movies or anywhere else without luck.” With considerable insight he also says:
“But I haven’t just been lucky. I’ve been unlucky plenty of times too. And I’ve never rested on my laurels. I’ve worked hard, learned my craft, grabbed my opportunities and just kept on bloody going when others gave up.” The title above is the lead sentence to an incident described by Lisa Ernst who shares this in her article Who Is Invisible To You? Here’s the powerful insight she experienced one morning while grocery shopping:
“There’s a man who works in the produce department at my neighborhood grocery store. He’s usually present in the morning when I shop there, but for more years than I’d like to admit, he was essentially invisible to me. One day that changed. My hands were dripping wet from handling some particularly wet produce, and he rushed over with a paper towel for me to dry myself with. This simple act of kindness penetrated my heart. Tears welled up as I realized how often I had overlooked him, unconsciously making him invisible.” Today as you go about your day, ask yourself: who is invisible to me? Parenting is a labor of love. It’s a path of service and surrender and, like the practice of a Buddha or a bodhisattva, it demands patience and understanding and tremendous sacrifice. - Jack Kornfield
What good is it if we acknowledge in our prayers that God is the Father of us all, and in our daily lives do not treat every man as our brother. - Swami Vivekananda
